Cycle to School Week celebrates the joy of active journeys.
We're calling on schools and families across Britain to take part in Cycle to School Week from 23 to 27 September to experience how travelling actively can be healthy, cheap and fun.

While nearly half of primary school pupils living less than a mile from their school, almost two-thirds are driven the short distance.

Our surveys show that around four out of every five children would like to make that journey by walking, wheeling, scooting or cycling.

Organised by The Bikeability Trust in partnership with sustrans, Cycle to School Week encourages families and schools to celebrate active journeys.

We'd love to see what you're getting up to that week! Please post and share on the GBG Community Chat Facebook group!
Join us on a quick overview of the last year, nominate new committee, and celebrate!

We will aim to have the formal section wrapped up in the first half an hour, so from 7pm will be a chance to look back on events of the year, campaigns, ideas for next year, and have a social time with other people cycling in the island.

-
Transport is the UK’s most emitting sector, making up 24% of emissions in 2020
-
Commuting accounts for 98% of an individual’s work-related carbon footprint
-
45.1% of UK commuters travel to work by car, and only 2% do so by bike
-
As many as three million commuters travel as little as two kilometres to work, making an uptick in active commuting one of the most actionable ways to drive down corporate emissions
-
On top of the environmental benefits, evidence indicates that an active workforce is a happier, healthier and more productive one

Guernsey Bicycle Group is thrilled to announce we are once again running the 20 in Two Challenge 1st May - 30th June!
This is raising money for Guernsey Chest & Heart LBG which is an excellent local charity we've honoured to partner with.
The aim is for participants to swap their car for their bike (or walking) for 20 journeys in the two months. With the opportunity to have a body composition scan at the start and at the end.
We're also ideally looking for some businesses / organisations / schools to get their staff / members / students involved as well and so we can get a company/school league going alongside our individual entrants this year.
Please get in touch with us if you have any questions! And please share and spread the word on this great local initiative! 😃

There's lots going on in Guernsey!
GBG will be holding our annual Be Bright Be Seen - Night Ride on Thursday 23rd at 6pm from The Captains.
Sunday 19th is the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims and GBG will again be installing a temporary monument next to Weighbridge House in St Peter Port.
Living Streets Guernsey is organising a minute silence at 11:30am Sunday 19th at the memorial and The Eleanor Foundation is organising a cycle ride starting at Grande Rocques at 10:30am to meet at the memorial in time for the minute silence.
Listen out for other events happening over the week by various local groups and please support the week by starting conversations with family, friends, work colleagues etc to promote looking out for each other and taking that extra 10 seconds to slow down on our busy roads, or just to double check at a junction or crossing.
